  1. Create an event to know when content control is selected in word online.

I am trying to create an event to know what content control is selected. Alex Jerabek told me that "onSelectionChanged" could be useful but it is still in BETA. So I would like to ask you implement these events and release them.
Thank you very much for your time.

  2. Allow displayMessageForm to open itemId in same window

Currently displayMessageForm method is opening the message pointed by itemId in a new window.

It will be great if we could pass an option to the method Office.context.mailbox.displayMessageForm() that allows to replace the current visualized message with the new message indicated in itemId.

The use case that I want to enable here is to programmatically navigate with add-in javascript to arbitrary messages knowing their itemIds.

  3. Add-in Developers - Automated Testing Platform

It is very difficult to test add-ins against multiple versions of Office and on different platforms.

For example, I ran into an issue where I had the latest macOS but a user had an older version. It was very difficult to debug and test code against that older version.

Therefore, it would be nice to have something like https://www.browserstack.com/ or Sauce Labs that was available to Add-in Developers so that we could run some automated testing in CI to make sure our changes will work on multiple platforms and environments. Maybe even at a minimum a set of VM's like…

  4. Wrapping OOXML APIs Needed - insertComment, insertBookmark, insertOoxmlFragment

The API makes it very very difficult to wrap content in the underlying OOXML with additional OOXML.

SUGGESTION: It would be great if there were a range.insertComment, range.insertBookmark that worked exactly like range.insertContentControl does! Or please give us a method to get the current OOXML fragment represented by a range. I'm trying to insert bookmarks and I've seen others trying to insert comments, around the selected text. The getOoxml() methods are great if you're writing copy/paste functionality, but that doesn't help you if you're trying to manipulate/wrap the fragment.

  5. Open XML SDK - add a support to save Word docx as PDF. 3rd party tools are costly and do not render complex docx as SaveAs2 of Word Interop.

Word Interop is a nice solution, yet very slow (comparing to OpenXml) and unreliable (we encountered that if a user clicks Ctrl+C to copy something, whilst Interop is running in a background, generating multiple documents, its content will be pasted onto one of those documents, although the user intended to paste it somewhere else) . There are 3rd party solutions to save as PDF from OpenXml, yet they do not render correctly our relatively complex invoices (header with image and table, footer with table and so on), so for now we ended up to generate them all as docx and…

  6. Office Add-ins should run in Chromium-based Edge, not EdgeHTML

At the moment addins run in EdgeHTML

Recently Chromium-based Edge has been released which is much faster than EdgeHTML

Add-ins should run in new, Chromium-based Edge.

Will it be "just done" at the next Windows update?

    Similar to previous suggestion:

  7. Create Word Comments via Office API

    Hi,

Could you add functionality to create Word comments via the Office API?

I know have a proof of concept, named Feedback+, in the store where we create comments into a word document. But this has a bug. It creates a paragraph everytime someone creates a comment in the document.

    Thanks,

    JW

  8. Allow dialogs to be sized with pixels instead of only percentages

Office.context.ui.displayDialogAsync gives us the ability to open a dialog of a certain size, but the size options are only in percents of the parents window.

This could be fine if we could know the size of the parent window from an add-in - we could get it and do some calculations, but CORS blocks us from that.

Using only percentages puts us in awkward situations where we have a dialog with a decent amount of content that we need to make responsive to a tiny window when there is still a lot of real estate available in the parent.

  9. merged cell

Allow Excel Javascript API to check for merge cells. Currently it can only merge/unmerge cells but can not check the cell status.

  10. Make Outlook/Mail Universal App supporting Office add-ins

The Universal App Mail (Outlook mobile) is definitely used a lot and is a solid candidate for being the mobile friendly Outlook client people were looking for.
Unfortunately, the version 17.6525.42271.0 does not support office add-ins. I did not see a roadmap indicating it will be, but that would be a huge plus. Now the only mobile approach to consume add-ins is with a fallback with Outlook Web Access.

  11. Support Outlook appointment AddIn on Mobile

    According to this...

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-gb/office/dev/add-ins/reference/manifest/extensionpoint#extension-points-for-outlook

...Addins are only supported for message read, on mobile. Can we please have a MobileAppointmentOrganizerCommandSurface and MobileAppointmentAttendeeCommandSurface ExtensionPoint, so that we may create an addin for appointments on mobile.

  12. Make possible to install Office add-ins permanently to be available offline

I frequently have to keep my computer offline for weeks, and I'd want to use add-ins I need, like ScriptLab of FunctionsTransform, without constantly reminding myself that I must not clear browser cache or trying to self-host them.
Simply put, I need an option to install them permanently on disk instead of memory.

  15. Pinnable Task Pane Support for Mac and OWA

The Pinnable Task Pane is a great piece of functionality, because as the user is navigating through their Inbox it is cumbersome to have to click a button to open an add-in for each email.

Support for this (at least as per the documentation) is limited only to Outlook 2016 for Windows.

This Idea captures the work to enable this functionality for both OWA and the Mac desktop client.

  16. Immediate synced to the server - saveAsync to get an itemId to use with EWS or the REST API

    Copied from : https://stackoverflow.com/questions/46671562/how-can-we-force-a-mailbox-item-to-be-persisted-to-ews?rq=1

Note: This particular issue has significant impact on our customers, which translates to high business impact with direct consequences on revenue.

    TL;DR.
How can our Office add-in for Outlook, when a user interacts with our add-in while composing an email draft, minimize the amount of time it takes before the EWS GetItem API will return an OK response for the itemId we receive from Office.context.mailbox.item.saveAsync()?

If it turns out that our add-in has no control over when the item will be persisted to EWS, then what could an end-user do to speed this up?

    We are…

  17. Make signature in outlook available through office js

We want to set a different signature in the mail body from the outlook add-in. Right now altering the whole html of the mail body makes this quite impossible, especially because it is different on all different platforms. (win, mac, online different browsers)

  18. JS API function to prevent user from sheet interaction

It would be extremely helpful in certain cases to prevent user to interact with the sheet/workbook while some action in the task pane is required or when some process is running (e.g. when some complex sheet changes are being performed - formatting, inserting columns, inserting data, charts....).

  19. afterSend Event for Outlook

Office.js for Outlook is rolling out an OnSend event which is useful but, comes with limitations due to the potential of developers negatively affecting the email-send experience of OL users.

We are looking for an "afterSend" event, that will trigger our code once an email has been sent and lands on the Sent Items folder. The event would trigger the code asynchronously and will allow for some post processing, without being able block or affect the email sending flow.

One of the usecases touted for OnSend is "updating a 3rd party system" was one. IMHO, an afterSend event would be…

  20. No direct support to lock document programmatically

Currently we are adding a Content Control to the entire body and setting its cannot Edit property to true.

This works fine in Desktop and Mac, but fails in case of Word online and iPad when we have nested Content Controls.
