Feature Requests and Feedback

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

  1. Expose the entire email MIME stream (whole mail ContentBytes) in Outlook Mail REST API

Sending REST request to Outlook Mail endpoint for messages brings back email message object with properties such as: Subject, From, To, Body but it doesn't expose the MIME stream for the whole email. Actually this is required to save the entire email maybe as eml file locally or somewhere.
EWS exposes this option but unfortunately is hard limited to 1MB response (for JavaScript APIs).

hope this option will be available soon within the REST response

    Thank you,

    • Office Add-ins should run in Edge, not IE11

At the moment Word runs Add-ins in IE11

IE11 doesnt support ES2016, and is therefore much harder to develop for than all of the other newer browsers (Safari, Chrome, Edge).

Word should run Add-ins in Edge

      • Add a "My Groups - Read/Write" Permission (that does not require Admin Consent)

It should not be necessary to require an admin consent to do Group read write operations through the graph API. There should be a permission for My Groups.

            • Fix the issue with new JavaScript API for Excel: any change by an add-in clears the Undo/Redo stack.

You can try to run this code and check the Undo/Redo stack:
              Excel.run(function (ctx) {
              return ctx.sync();
              });

Renat, thanks for reporting this issue! We are aware of this and the bug is currently being patched. Note that the undo stack will be removed upon any “update” action occurring in the add-in. For read actions, we’ll preserve the undo-stack. We’ll let you know when this is available.

                Thanks,

              • Support Azure Conditional Access for Microsoft Graph

A lot of Microsoft products does not work as expected due to the fact the Microsoft Graph does not support Azure Conditional Access. Among the applications I can mention is Microsoft Teams, ToDo, etc. that all rely on the Microsoft Graph and breaks to to limited support or no support for Azure Conditional Access.

                • Pinnable Task Pane Support for Mac and OWA

The Pinnable Task Pane is a great piece of functionality, because as the user is navigating through their Inbox it is cumbersome to have to click a button to open an add-in for each email.

Support for this (at least as per the documentation) is limited only to Outlook 2016 for Windows.

This Idea captures the work to enable this functionality for both OWA and the Mac desktop client.

                      Hi folks,

We’ve added some changes to our documentation to better cover our REST APIs. For existing APIs (such as the list, list items, folders, and files APIs), we added additional documentation in MSDN. Moving forward, we are trying our best to fully document new REST APIs, an example of which is the new Files API included in the recently-announced Office 365 APIs. Please let us know what you think — we’re happy to make changes based on constructive criticism.

                      Thanks!

                    • Get license assignment paths like GroupsAssigningLicense property in PowerShell

Allow retrieval of license assignment paths (shown in the Licenses blade of the Microsoft Azure Portal) like the GroupsAssigningLicense property does on license objects in PowerShell. Need to be able to determine if user's license is coming from a group licensing assignment ("inherited") or direct. Then must remove the direct licenses which have a corresponding inherited license. There's a good write-up on how to do this from PowerShell (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/active-directory-licensing-ps-examples#remove-direct-licenses-for-users-with-group-licenses), but the critical piece (the GroupsAssigningLicense property) is missing from MS Graph.

With the introduction of group licensing, this feature would allow our self-service licensing app to prevent sending…

                      • Need content Controls found on desktop Excel and Word applications to be avaiable in web version of Excel and Word

Content controls like found in the desktop version of Excel Word need to also exist on the Web version of Excel Word and function the same. The same controls should be able to be used on the desktop version of Excel and Word and the Web version of Excel and Word. This would allow moving Excel and Word files containing content controls between the desktop and Office 365's OneDrive and SharePoint sites. The Workbooks and documents with content controls would work the same in both environments (desktop and Online). This is a critical need!

Jim, thank you for your feedback! Please note that there’s no notion of content controls in Excel. Content controls feature is only available in Word.

Also, the content control API is already available in Word Online. However, content controls are currently not editable in Word Online, and this is currently being worked on. We’ll keep you posted when this is available.

                          Thanks!

                        • Support $count for group members and owners

Currently $count is not supported on `directoryObjects` like users and groups. Although it would be great to know how much members / owners are in a group. The only way right now is via querying the members or owners endpoint of the group and checking the array length. Depending on the number of members, this could lead to multiple calls.

It would be great that the `$count` parameter would be supported so that only one call is required.

Currently even if you have the User.ReadWrite.All you cant update another users photo via:

                            This would be VERY helpful.

We are in the process of development for Office 365 based Add-ins for Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
It would be really nice, if we could have a way to disable/hide the ribbon buttons based on some data against that particular user.

                                  • Word Add-In (Office 365) allways available.

I want to have my Word Add-in automatically loaded the next time I start Word. Now, I have to add the Add-in every time I start Word.

                                      • allow add-in to use user's authorizations

An add-in that has been installed, and approved should not have to initiate another oauth flow to have access to documents on a sharepoint site, onedrive site, onedrive for business site, etc.
The API should make this readily available when the user is logged in, and has already granted permissions to the add-in itself.

                                        • Bug to fix: Html ordered list last element rendered out of list when bound to RichText Content Control

There is a bug I've discussed on MSDN forum:
                                          https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/cb7b7f3b-c59b-4868-b80f-da6c82b45231/office-api-rich-text-content-control-html-coercion-problem-ordered-lists

Basically, when html for an ordered list passed with coercion type html into a rich text content control, last element of list rendered as a seperate paragraph.

                                          A fix would be nice.

                                          Thanks
