Content control support in Word Online
Will we have this support eventually? Do we have any estimated date for that?
Thiago, we’re happy to report that 1.1 and 1.2 requirement sets are available in Word Online. Please check out dev.office.com for more info. The ability to edit content controls is a work-in-progress and should be available soon.

Hi, is there any way to get information about the status of this suggestion? I know that rich text content controls are supported now, but we are still having problems if it is bound to custom xml part.
Also, is there any plan to add support for dropdown o date picker content controls? We use these kind of elements in lots of templates, so if there are no plans to add them to online version, we don't know how to move from desktop. And it could be very helpful any ETA about it....
Uh, this is still not implemented. Why is this marked as completed?

Hi Juan, great to hear from you :-)
It's great to see this feature live on Office 365! Is there anything you can share about when this will be available on-premise as well? And if not, where would be the announcement of a new version on-premise? :-)

I see a few questions here.
1. Editable rich text content controls is now live in production.
2. XMLPart Binding to content controls is not supported yet. Supporting this is high in the Word Online backlog, but no clear ETA at this point.
3. There is another open question from James Boman, stating that this is "clearly not implemented" not sure what specific you are referring too, would appreciate a more detailed description of what you mean.
Thanks for posting!

How can they mark this as completed when it is clearly not yet implemented?
With the release of WordApi 1.3, I expected editing of content controls in Word Online to be implemented. However, it appears that this is still not the case.
This has been requested since at least early 2013: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/officeonline-word_online/does-word-web-app-support-editing-documents-with/327745a0-64a2-475a-9b40-3e85cd17f244
The most recent "official" word regarding this is here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/officeonline-word_online/content-control-support-in-word-online/0f33ba70-9fe0-4990-9f09-db5ce7f3a8c7 - which points to documentation that mentions content controls on Word Online not being editable.
Could we please have a clear answer as to whether editing of content controls (directly on the document, via an OfficeJS API, AND when data-bound to custom XML parts that are updated) will be FULLY supported in Word Online, and some indication with a timeline/roadmap?

would be great if people can add what content controls you prefer to be supported. (and please avoid generic answers like "all of them", would love to see if we need to prioritize this work which ones go first) thanks so much for participating!!!

Just FYI support for content controls in Word Online is coming really soon. We are currently working on enabling rich text content controls in Word Online. In fact they are partially supported today, they are missing user editing capabilities which is the specific work item to be delivered.

Content controls like found in the desktop version of Word need to also exist on the Web version of Word and function the same. The same controls should be able to be used on the desktop. This would allow moving Word document containing content controls between the desktop and Office 365's OneDrive and SharePoint sites the documents and content controls would work the same in both environment (desktop and Online). This is a critical need idea!
