Obviously this ticket has merged two ideas — the original searching in footnotes, and having a proper Footnotes API to insert and manipulate them. Can we get an official response on both?

We need to be able to read/write footnotes.

Yes, please allow PerfectIt to check footnotes.

There is a (poor) workaround by using OOXML - but that solution is still very crashy on any mistakes in the footnote OOXML making it painful to develop with.
Additionally, it requires significant re-writing of the document to change footnotes

I work with so many books with footnotes, endnotes, it would be great if these were incorporated in the checks as well.

Checking footnotes would be SO useful in the work I do on academic documents.

This is critical for our add-in too. If users are checking text, they expect to check footnotes too. It's especially confusing since it works in our managed add-in, but not our javascript api version.

This functionality is critical to our customer adoption and feature/functionality of the integrated product.

It´s really hard to explain our to users that we cannot access to footnotes.
Without this funcionality API it is absolutely incomplete, It´s like saying "I sell you a car but please don´t use it in Florida and Texas, the manufacturer (Ford) have not prepared it to go into that States"
Would you buy that car? I hope you understand this is major problem in higth quality text in which there are normaly footnotes. -

There are big impacts in our application, due to the lack of this feature:
- The adoption of our recently developed addin is in high risk for this reason, as we can not provide the same functional solution in the text of the document and in the text of footnotes
- impact in development effort, as there are different technical solutions to apply the same functionality to text of document or text of footnotes -

I agree with this request.
We really need to perform a search inside the footnotes.

Footnotes are very heavily used in many professional types of documents. (Specifically legal documents). Currently Footnotes are not exposed in any way via the word api which is a sizable gap in the functionality.
