  1. Pay more attention to the accuracy of your "getting started" web pages

I started here:http://dev.office.com/getting-started/addins . I downloaded and installed VS 2015 Community edition. I got to here "3.In the New Project dialog, choose Templates > Visual C# > Office/SharePoint > Apps." But there is no such option. The "getting started" web page has no feedback option, which is why I am posting here. I have since discovered that what I need is to get and run the Web Platform Installer at http://aka.ms/officedevtoolsforvs2015 . That does appear to install the necessary stuff. There are enough barriers for people trying to get started - IMO the easier you can make the process,…

  2. Allow Settings to be persisted in Word Online Documents too

Currently the Word Online host doesn't support the settings to be persisted via the 'Settings' Object.

Please add support for it in word online too, as its already supported in the desktop and iPad versions of Word and in Online version of Excel and PowerPoint.

  4. Lock Content Control

It would be great if locking mecanism for bound content controls is added to Office API. In VSTO this is possible, but not with javascript api.

There are cases where we'd like to fetch content from Internet and put in document, but don't want to users edit that content.

    Thanks.

  5. Extend the getFileAsync functionality to work on Excel as well.

Extend the getFileAsync functionality to work on Excel as well. It's essential in order to be able to export the file to a web service.

Thank you for your feedback! We’re happy to announce that you can now get Excel files using the getFileAsync() method. You can read more about it here: https://dev.office.com/reference/add-ins/shared/document.getfileasync

And there is also a code sample of how to get Excel files here: https://github.com/OfficeDev/office-js-snippets/blob/master/samples/excel/82-document/get-file-in-slices-async.yaml

Please check it out and give us feedback.

    Thanks!

  6. Allow Office Add-in in Excel to make cells read-only for end-user

Enhance the Office add-in javascript APIs (for Excel) to allow the add-in to programmatically make cells in the worksheet read-only.

Our use case requires that our add-in be able to populate a table in the worksheet with values, but some of the values should be read-only for the end-user. (In our COM/VSTO add-in we toggled worksheet protection off/on to accomplish this).

See this forum post for the origin of this suggestion:

    Hi there,
We’re happy to say that this is now possible with new Excel JavaScript APIs. Please see http://dev.office.com/reference/add-ins/excel/worksheetprotection for more information.

To find even more about all these new APIs, please check out our API documentation on http://dev.office.com/docs/add-ins/excel/excel-add-ins-javascript-programming-overview or https://github.com/OfficeDev/office-js-docs/tree/master/excel.

  8. Need app to edit content, not take three clicks to launch every time

It takes three clicks to open an app that has edit permissions in Outlook, and must be done for every new window. The new add-in platform is a no-go for us because of this. We'd prefer zero clicks (run when context met) or one click. It's hard to imagine someone writing a Mail app complex enough to warrant a three-click launch every time.

The content app UI is closer to what we want, but doesn't allow edit permission.

  9. Provide IntelliSense and validation for Add-in Commands manifest elements

The XML-elements that create Add-in Commands don't validate (give warnings) and don't have IntelliSense. Suggest making them validate and have IntelliSense.

  10. Mail app for Office 2013 - Include a provision to get email body in compose mode in outlook 2013 desktop client

Please provide a provision to get email body in compose mode in outlook 2013 desktop client. At present, it is feasible to read email body in compose mode from outlook web but it doesn't work in outlook desktop client.

  11. Provide a typescript definition file for all office javascript.

Provide typescript definitions for outlook, excel, word and powerpoint.

There are some available from 3rd parties but these are unsupported and well out of date.

  12. Why isn't it possible to insert images from an Office app into a PowerPoint slide?

As the title asks: Why isn't it possible to insert images from an app into a PowerPoint slide?

The user manually have to paste images copied to the clipboard.

Will it be made possible in the future to let an app automatically insert an image into a given place in a slide?

  15. Provide a Design Implementation for O365, SPO, SP2013 & Office App Developers

When building an app for Office 365, SharePoint Online, SharePoint 2013 or Office Apps, there is one challenge many developers face: making their app look & feel like the host they came from or run within. All the hosts mentioned in the subject implement the Microsoft Modern design (http://www.microsoft.com/design/)... each one has guidelines (like sharepoint's here https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/fp179934.aspx & Office apps here https://msdn.microsoft.com/EN-US/library/office/dn324912.aspx) but what we're missing is a pack of CSS & components to make it easy to do.

For comparison, Google's Material Design (http://www.google.com/design/spec/material-design/introduction.html) is not just a spec, but there are people implementing…

    Hi there,
We’re happy to say that this is now possible with new Excel JavaScript APIs. Please see http://dev.office.com/reference/add-ins/excel/tablecolumn for more information. The delete() method on this object will delete a table column.

To find even more about all these new APIs, please check out our API documentation on http://dev.office.com/docs/add-ins/excel/excel-add-ins-javascript-programming-overview or https://github.com/OfficeDev/office-js-docs/tree/master/excel.

  17. Make Outlook a real development platform again, and not just a data repository

There need to be a way to extend, modify and interact will all aspects of the office platform.

And by office platform I mean everything where any of the terms Office, excel, word, outlook, powerpoint, visio, project, .. (you get the idea) is used.

    Examples
    * There has to be ONE way to centrally (one time) add a custom form to outlook for all/some users matter if it is a local office/exchange installation or if if Office-365 is used.

    • There have to be a way to add, modify, hook and interact with the message transport, i.e. create Transport Agents, even…

  18. Enable Task Pane Apps from Word Online

Task pane apps are currently available for Excel and PowerPoint online, but not for Word online. We have a task pane app that runs in Word 2013 to enable users of our web application to add meeting minutes to a document. We have a similar Google Docs add-on. Currently the Google Docs add-on is superior because it enables the user to add the minutes in their browser, whereas for Word the user must first load the document from Office 365/SharePoint and then choose to open in Word desktop before they can add minutes using the Task Pane app. This makes…

  19. Allow app to delete all data present in excel sheet

It would be good if developer could delete all the data present on excel sheet (Table,Matrix and independent text) on single call of function. In current version it would delete only table data (excluding headers) and for other things it have to been done manually by placing blank values at specific bindings. Thanks

    Hi there,
We’re happy to say that this is now possible with new Excel JavaScript APIs. Please see http://dev.office.com/reference/add-ins/excel/range for more information. You can simply call getUsedRange(),delete() on the workbook you intend to delete data from.

To find even more about all these new APIs, please check out our API documentation on http://dev.office.com/docs/add-ins/excel/excel-add-ins-javascript-programming-overview or https://github.com/OfficeDev/office-js-docs/tree/master/excel.

  20. Need to retrieve excel cell formatting properties

Need the equivalent API of bindingObj.setFormatsAsync(cellFormat [,options], callback); to get excel cell formatting properties, something like getFormatsAsync().
