Thanks, Sameera. However, at first glance, I see that Vorlon needs some non-trivial setup as well as a change to the target add-in. This seems fairly intrusive. So, I still hope to see the suggestion above implemented at some point.

In my opinion, the key requirement here is *not* about publishing to a web server. Nor, is it about inserting an Office.js add-in from a web server. These activities are for the developer. Instead, the key requirement is focused on end users. When an end user opens a workbook that already has the Office add-in attached, it is important that Excel can look at the web server to fetch/update the manifest, prompting the end user to agree to trust it as needed. Ideally, any http or https access would be supported and no 'Trusted App Catalog' would be needed. Just end user consent. Thanks.
