Jim, thank you for your feedback! Please note that there’s no notion of content controls in Excel. Content controls feature is only available in Word.
Also, the content control API is already available in Word Online. However, content controls are currently not editable in Word Online, and this is currently being worked on. We’ll keep you posted when this is available.
Thanks!

Thank you for your request!
We are collecting API requirements for developing Office Add-ins in Excel, specifically for Events API.
If you are considering moving an existing COM/VSTO/VBA Add-in to Office Add-in, or creating a new Office Add-in in Excel, and have events requirements, please fill the survey below and help us focus on the right set of events and design. We truly appreciate your help!
Thanks!

This would be very handy to do with the Web version as we are doing this now with the client version.

Thank you! We are considering enhancing the platform with some document events like the ones described here. Once we have something more concrete to share we will do so. If there are particular events (e.g. Doc open) that you care the most about do share with us.

We currently use a single password for protecting a Word or Excel file. It would be very helpful if a single password could be use to protect or unprotect a Word or Excel opened in the Web version of Word and Excel. This would result in good compatibility of Excel and Word files moved or open on a desktop or Office 365 SharePoint or OneDrives.
